International Historical Research Associates

International Historical Research Asssociates, founded in 1983 as International Research and Publishing Corporation, has compiled the most authoritative archive of aviation history relating to the Southwest Pacific Area in World War Two. Additionally, IHRA maintains archives of varying sizes for every major air force in the war. Currently, we are finishing production of the Eagles Over the Pacific series of books about the air war in the SWPA.

Lawrence J. Hickey, President of IHRA, is a distinguished aviation historian and one of the world’s leading authorities on the USAAF in the SWPA.

Larry has been fascinated by aviation since his boyhood in Wichita, Kansas, where his father was a Project Engineer for the Boeing Company. In 1966 he graduated from Rockhurst College in Kansas City with a degree in History. He spent the next year living with a Vietnamese family in Saigon while working as researcher for the Department of the Air Force. During this period, he traveled widely throughout Vietnam and flew as an observer on numerous combat missions. After completing several detailed studies on the effects of air operations in Southeast Asia he returned to the US to pursue graduate studies. He subsequently became an analyst with the Defense Intelligence Agency, where he ran the South Vietnam political desk. During the next four years, Larry served in the Order of Battle Section, the Southeast Asia Situation Room, and as Political Analyst for North Vietnam. Concurrently, he served as a consultant to the National Security Council Staff on enemy plans and operations. At the direction of the President, he returned to Vietnam in 1970 to conduct research in the Mekong Delta for a major cease-fire planning study. After a highly successful intelligence career, he left government service in 1972 to become a private businessman, pursuing interests in manufacturing, real estate development, writing and publishing. He lives in Boulder, Colorado with his wife Sue, where he manages his investments and is a full time author and publisher.
